Nokia is currently nowhere near the top smartphone makers. However,
the Finnish company is trying everything to get back its place. Latest
rumor suggests that Nokia is working on a Windows RT based tablet
device.
The device was spotted by Nokiapoweruser.com.
GFXBenchmark results of a device goes by the name ‘RX-114’ and the
vendor name was ‘Nokia’. The device was apparently running on Windows.
Since CPU architecture shows ARM, we can conclude that it was Windows RT
and not full fledged Windows 8 Pro like on Microsoft Surface Pro. There
are very little details available on the processor other than that it
is quad core. The GPU is listed as Qualcomm Adreno 330, and only
Snapdragon 800 chipsets have used this GPU chip so far.
There was no information on the screen size, also the pixel
resolution was awkward at 1371 x 771 pixels and out of line with
standard 1368 x 768 pixel resolution for 720p screens. From this info,
it can be speculated that the Tablet may have a 10.1 inch screen like
the Microsoft Surface Pro.
Nokia is trying to follow the industry trend where all Smartphone
manufactures are launching Tablet devices. However, while other
manufacturers are banking on the popularity of Android OS, Nokia is
still sticking with its Smartphone OS partner, Microsoft. Nokia has not
been able to get much success with its Windows Phone based Lumia
Smartphones, and rumors are that Nokia has blamed Microsoft for this.
The lack of apps in Windows ecosystem has been identified by Nokia as
the chief reason behind Lumia phone’s failure.
A lot therefore depends on Nokia’s first attempt at manufacturing a
Tablet. The tarnished brand image and cut throat competition in the
high-end devices market are two major roadblock for Nokia and we are
little bit skeptical as to whether the Finnish Company would be able to
hit jackpot with the Windows RT tablet.
